Mill Engineers are doing a professional engineering job in Palm oil industry. They should be rightfully be eligible to obtain and be accredited Professional Engineer (PE) with the title of Ingenieur, Ir.
However, it is strange to find that there are so few palm oil mill engineers in Malaysia been accredited with PE. Why? Are they not interested? Can we share some discussions from all PalmIngenieurs in this community?
Hello Community. This is to refresh on interest in becoming a Professional Engineer in Malaysia. Do reach out to me via Members Chat or contact me at 0126369927 to answer those questions you may have in mind and not sure about.
I have published an article titled 'Journey to becoming a Professional Engineer (PE)'. Trust this will aid most Engineers to have some insights to make a start towards becoming a PE.
The first goal of most of the Graduate Engineers working in Palm Oil Mills is to obtain the Steam Certificate which is understandable as it will elevate their salary. However, it shall be the pride and self esteem of we engineers to be accredited as Professional Engineer as our jobs involve professional engineering knowledge and application. Sadly, not many companies is willing to train and provide the career pathway for their mill engineers to be accredited PE and Steam Engineers. With the mills becoming more and more complex with many downstream activities, PE with Steam Certificate could greatly enhance the level of good engineering practices in the current and future mill setup. My question is, “ Can PalmIngenieurs working in POM be accredited PE?”. I hope some members could advise and comment on this.
Maybe because our Mill Engineers are busy preparing for their Steam Engineer's Certificate of Competency exams. The Steam Certificate is of more immediate value than the PE in a palm oil mill. Maybe we should also include a guide to preparation for the Steam Engineers' Certificate of Competency.
Haha...sometimes I wonder too? Really I wanted to but I don’t have any idea how to go about it.
