What are the variables that a mill uses to govern efficiency of the mill process? Ie the oil loss or kernel loss and what are the acceptable % of losses and how much is considered abit much to guide on the mill performance?

Attached here is a paper from Palm Oil Engineering Bulletin on Significance of OER efficiency which could add to your reading. This file could also be found in our Library- FILE SHARE.
For quick reference, attached is a flowchart showing the sampling points for process and losses control and, quality control of products. Sampling frequency, size and methods should be standardized to ensure samples collected are representative of the actual milling condition. The data collected from the samples can then be use for quality assurance, quality control and process control. To do this effectively and in a timely manner, the data should be easily available for analysis of trends and deviations from control limits, etc. In this day and age, it is sad that many mills are still keeping paper based records instead of electronically. This will be a subject matter for another Case Study in the near future.
