Our mill is one of those few which are doing Land Application for the final discharge of the treated POME. Over the years, struvite has scaled the pipings all the way from our pump discharge to the furrow sites. The pump Head has gone up and our pump rate has dropped tremendously. I have Googled for methods to descale these pipes but to no avail.
Now looking forward to our dear members to advise and share their experiences in helping me to solve my problem.
Thank you for your kind sharing.
I used to encounter struvite buildup in the pipes. The main cause of struvite is because of the biological reaction due to excessive nutrients (ammonia, phosphorus, and magnesium). It forms when the pH or alkalinity of effluent is high (the higher the worse). There are few ways to prevent depending on which of the process line, such as chemicals or modify the process flow. In my case, we control the pH of the POME at around 6.5 by ensuring the ratio of raw pome pome and recycling pome is balanced.
